Beyond Covid:
The pandemic affected me in both positive and negative ways. Looking at the negative side, it was very difficult for me to adjust to this brand new life of the unknown. Not being able to see friends or family, leave my house, or finish out my junior year of school was not easy. The summer was a bit easier to manage, while I was often bored due to a lack of places to go and friends to see, I was able to enjoy my summer job of lifeguarding. After the summer, life took a positive turn. I was able to return to school for my senior year, I could see my friends and family, leave my house, and return to cheerleading, something I had missed greatly. Living through the pandemic will impact my future as I head off to college. I have learned so much about myself and the world in which we live. I have learned to accept ever changing situations and that I have control over how I react to them. I have found that peace means accepting the opinions of the people around me and embracing our differences as power to grow and make change. If we all believe and think the same, we will never advance. As I head to college and experience the new normal, I am better equipped to handle the twists and turns of adult life.
What is something a lot of people may not know about you?:
One thing that not a lot of people may know about me is that I love science and that helped me find my passion for donating blood. The first time I donated blood was my junior year of high school to get extra credit points in one of my science classes, but the process was so easy and rewarding that I fell in love with it. The thought of knowing that I can save up to three lives by donating a pint of blood is AMAZING. Fun fact, my record for donating a pint is 3 minutes and 54 seconds (the average pint takes anywhere from 15-20 minutes to donate).
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I will be 28, wrapping up medical school and beginning residency. My plans for the future are to get my bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and ultimately get my doctorate and become an anesthesiologist. In 10 years, I also see myself regularly hosting and donating and blood drives, volunteering for church, and helping charities such as St. Judes. In 10 years, I don’t think I will be ready to start a family, but I will have my own place to live and I will use my skills to help others.
What is your favorite High School memory and why?
My favorite high school memory is my time spent with friends. Being able to go through my high school journey with such amazing people is what made these past four years of my life so memorable. I made so many amazing friends and we share unforgettable memories.
Is there anyone who has made a big impact on your life and why?
The person who has made a big impact on my life is my mom. She has raised me to be the person that I am today. She has smiled with me through all of my good times and has been there to uplift me during bad times. My mom is my biggest fan, number one supporter, and is always here for me.
